I can’t deal with how many words he can throw into a sentence. After a while they trickle into a gibberish flood.

Lit and theory—like peanut butter and chocolate.

I’ve published two posts that go together, one from a reader who hates theory, and one from a reader who focuses so much on theory she can’t remember the books she applies it to.

My two cents on the whole thing is that literary analysis works best when you’re careful about the framework you’re using to perform that analysis (that would be theory) and that that theory works best when it’s used to elucidate particular texts (those would be literature).
